Zoho Mail: Why Does No One Talk About It?

Doesn't even have a dedicated thread

I'm sure everyone here has heard of Zoho, and some may have even tried it. It's generous enough to offer a free plan (1GB) and even allows you to host a custom domain at no cost.

It also features a full suite of office tools. I agree it can be a bit overwhelming, with so many "extensions/plugins" visible from the web interface. However, I still think its interface is well-organised and polished compared to others. I'm especially impressed by their forced dark mode for emails -- it works about 99% of the time, unlike other providers where some emails end up with black text on black backgrounds, making them unreadable.

Other notable differentiating features include:

SecurePass Email - A two-step email process where the recipient first receives an email with a link to retrieve an OTP, and only then receives the actual email that requires the OTP to read.

Sticky Notes - Quickly post notes using a button at the bottom right of the interface, with the notes floating on the screen.

That said, I'm genuinely curious why it isn't even among the top three "big" providers people here usually talk about. Are there any reasons you don't use it?

Yes, they are highly reliable, secure and safe.

Using from last few years.

I feel their name is way detached from emails, unless someone has been very familiar with this industry.

Btw, where are they headquartered? Are they privacy-friendly? Thanks.

A search of the forums for the string "ZOHO" finds 404 threads.

IMO this kind of feature is very bad. I personally would not follow such links in email, including email from people I know, because this is exactly what attackers may do when they take over someone's personal account. Anyway people that get used to following such links would eventually follow phishing links. It is trivial to mimic such emails. If someone needs to send a message securely all they have to do is send it with a service that supports SMTP/TLS.

Interesting! I want and love that feature. I think Zoho suffers from its focus on enterprise apps of all sorts, and such a plethora of options it becomes overwhelming. I have signed up for accounts a few times, and the setup and options are confusing. If you just want email, it is not for you. OTOH, if you want to duplicate what you get with a Gmail or Apple account, it is all there, but you have to figure out how to navigate a maze of account and feature options, and then set it all up. Zoho is based in India, but has a major presence in the USA. I believe they offer different data centers based on your location, but how you access or change your data center I do not know. Like most providers these days they tout their "privacy" and "security," but who knows?

I have the same attitude to messages like "John has sent you an e-card"
even when I'm nearly sure it's from someone genuine.

Been awhile since I messed around with Zoho. Are you able to now use your own domain with a regular email account or do you still need a business email account that won't have a zoho.com email address? Do they have any sort of hide my address options?

Zoho has been talked about a LOT on this forum and seems to be really good, if I may believe the comments about them.

They allow to use your own domain even with the free package.

I also see them mentioned, amongst the only free providers, in articles about the most secure/privacy-friendly email providers.

One thing that scares me off a bit: I read they have a lot of integrated services and don't offer just webmail. I don't know if that's true as I never used them, and it also depends what other services they use and how easy it is to avoid those and only use the webmail. For example if they also offer an address book and calendar: no problem for me. If they also offer an integrated password manager, shared mailboxes, ... then I rather stay away from it unless it's really easy to avoid using those.
I like Proton and Tuta but ended up paying for Tuta because they offer only email, address book and calendar. The many other services in Proton were too overwhelming for me. So I would definitely consider using Zoho unless I'd end up with the same issue.

@TenFour: when you say "major presence in the USA", do you mean in terms of employees and servers, or do you mean in terms of users?
