Lightbulb Poll: How did you get your Gmail account/invitation?

I was curious on what the percentage was of EMD members who received a Gmail account/invitation through means other than an invitation.

The thought came to me as I posted my request for a Gmail invitation; I noticed the discouragingly numerous requests before mine.

Gmail only comes in a invitation. There is no other means of getting it.

Actually, I meant to add *HOW one got an invitation* also. D'oh! I'll edit my first post now. Thanks for your reply.

I got mine through the kind advice of someone here on this forum. The first round was for Google employees, but then the employees themselves got a whole lot to give away. A poster here told me to ask as shellen.com and I did and I got one. Don't bother..that was just for the one round and that never happened again.

Right now they've dried up. I think that Gmail is working on getting it right with the number of testers that they've got and when they feel they do, then they'll offer some invites again or maybe even just open things up to everyone.

I remember I got more than one invitation, but took the first I received, from Pyedka, on these forums. Psalzer offered one also, but I passed it on to another that psalzer designated...rather than just keep it for myself...as so many have done.

Ah, well. I guess I'll just have to wait until Google finally decides to release the finished product.

Thanks for the update and your participation.

Hmm...well, it seems like the majority got their invitations via a generous party.

I came up with this poll due to the fact I had seen one site offering free invitations via a lottery-matching type of contest. Then there are the bloggers who had a few to give away to the next "x" amount of readers to post after his last post. And, of course, the notorious eBay/PayPal methods.

Thanks to those who contributed. It was just a small experiment of mine. hehe...

I agree with you on Fastmail. I've had my FM account for over 2 years now and still swear by it. I'm planning on upgrading fairly soon.

Damn...was there EVER a time that the Gmail invitation "market" was oversaturated? If so and I missed the opportunity, then I want the snipers to do their thing to me.
