This is funny. It's in the Gmail forum, and Gmail has only one vote so far.

Another thing: Gmail is only in beta, so regardless of features it is not currently in the same class as FM, Runbox, or Mailsnare. I am not using my Gmail account for much of anything impt until it is reliable. (Even then I may have my reservations.)

I think that's true. Gmail reminds me of the hard-man down the local pub - very big but not very smart. It doesn't have so many features of some of the other systems, although the alternative o filing it uses is nice.

Also, havng a 1GB inbox and only allowing 10MB messages to be sent/recieved is madness.

Personally, I'm just not comfortable using any email as my primary unless I have more spam control, such as the aliases and subdomains that FM offers. Until Gmail has something like that, it won't be a serious contender, IMO.

Just did a head to head comparison of one thing, albeit a small thing, in both Gmail and Fastmail. I recently subscribed to the New Yorker Cartoon of the Week in both of them. In Gmail, sometimes the page renders right, but usually it doesn't and for some reason the cartoon doesn't show up and the interface goes out of whack. In Fastmail it all displays fine. I guess I should be a good beta tester and report this as a bug, but I'm not sure how to describe it.

Is there any way to forward the email or a link to a screen shot?

I think FastMail and GMail are two different ends of the email service spectrum. Gmail is simple, elegant, and basic. Fastmail is mature, efficacious and feature laden.

I think OddPost and Gmail would be make a better comparison cause the two services are more similar.

I'm also anxious to see what Gmail may have up their sleeves later on...you know...for fee services. I wonder what they will do for $19.95/yr, considering what Yahoo and MSN are doing for that fee.

Does Gmail support automatic forwarding and POP3 access?

Answer

Not at the moment, but Google believes in helping people access information whenever and however they want to do so. In the future you will be able to access Gmail messages from non-Gmail accounts for free or at a nominal fee.

You might be interested to hear that we are working on many upcoming
features, including the following:

- Automatic forwarding of your email to another account
- Plain HTML version of Gmail
I wonder if they would consider IMAP?

Yahoo, having obtained Oddpost, and their programming expertise, ought to become much more interesting than it already is, also!

Fastmail is still my favorite.I haven't had any major problems, and am very happy with the service. The layout is simple;yet, colorful according to your tastes. Does a good job with spam. Finally, my addy is easy to remember!

I'll tell you what I do like about Gmail though - that when you type in an address that it has seen before (is this limited to the same session?) it gives you a 'fill' option, just like Outlook.

How cool is that on a web based system?

I am pretty sure this is really new, though. Others may do the same. I thought it was cool when I saw it, too. I also think that it is anyone in your contacts list.
