I don't think there is anything wrong with such domain. Secria is just a name after all, it's no better or worse than any product name. I guess it's also a bit of wordplay, it reminds me of "secret", which suits a privacy-focused mail provider.
I also see no issue in the .me ccTLD. Except for .com, .net and a few ccTLD's that are globally famous (such as .de or .uk) no other extention would have been a huge improvement. And .me is no obscure extention, think of pm.me (one of the Protonmail accounts), about.me (a sort of online ID card, a service that has been around for years), etc. So it's well-known enough that people are unlikely to confuse it with another extention. I wouldn't yet trust my most important mails to Secria.me as I would like to see first how the service evolves, but they certainly deserve the benefit of the doubt. |

In the end, names are just names, some people will like it, some won't.
Secria, Proton, Tuta, Mailfence, ... They're just names and I'm sure those services have thought carefully about which name they'd take. Yahoo and Hotmail are not great domains in my opinion, they sound a little immature. However, in the end they're just names, and if their service is solid then the name becomes less relevant. With extentions you have to be more concerned, as you want to avoid having mails sent to a wrong address because you use a relatively unknown domain extention. .com is king around the world, and in some countries (Canada, UK, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Germany, Spain, Russia, China, ...) the ccTLD is so popular that it's a great choice as well. I would however maybe refrain from extentions that are extremely obscure, such as .bf, .qa, .cf, ... Nothing against those countries whatsoever, but I would be concerned people will fail to remember the email address correctly. I don't see this issue with Secria.me, as the .me ccTLD is well enough known around the world. Few people even realise it is the country code of Montenegro, for most it is just a very easy-to-remember word. So I wouldn't be concerned if there were issues with using this extention. |

I'll follow up how they are doing the first months. If it seems their service functions well and solidly, and if they show they have the budget to keep the service going long time, then I will probably sign up for an account.
The only reason why I want to wait and see a couple of months, is that I have had several negative experiences in the past signing up for services that disappeared really quickly. Since those experiences, I try to go only with services that are stable and unlikely to disappear anytime soon. In the past I liked to try a lot of email services, but the hassle of losing stored mails and having to notify your friends you once again changed email address became too much for me. Since then I've only used Gmail, Outlook and Protonmail (and considering Tuta too). If Secria proves they're solid and here to stay, I'll gladly sign up. That said, for a privacy-focused provider, I'm not sure if their location (Delaware, USA) isn't a concern. Nothing against the US itself, but it is a fact that Europe has much stricter privacy laws. It is no surprise that all privacy-focused email providers are in Europe, with Hushmail being the one exception. |

Secria is now live and out of beta status. They have communicated this in their own subreddit. So everyone can sign up now.

Great product, still buggy at the moment though (despite the official launch)
To be honest Secria UI has a Skiff-esque feel, hopefully they don't end up like Skiff ![]() |

In their subreddit they explain their HQ are in Delaware, US, but they have servers around the world. If needed they will even relocate in order to offer users the best possible privacy. They have zero-knowledge servers, so they could not even even provide US courts with data, as they simply cannot access any data themselves and have nothing to give the courts.
That sounds OK, but they don't support Yubikey yet, I would hope they accept other forms of 2FA. They also don't keep logs with dates of previous sign-ins. They do play to further expand and offer other features beyond email. |
