Oops! Two mistakes in my last post here: (1) I forgot to post about birds - incredible! But, I had just watched something on TV about life on a British aircraft carrier..., and (2) I conga-ed in the wrong thread.
A 'Pasta' Penguin Looks Extrovert - ok, ok, the "Macaroni Penguin" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macaroni_penguin - which is who I mean, isn't named for pasta, but after some fops/dandies of 18th-century Britain, who wore ridiculous wigs & hats; see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macaroni_(fashion) The "Yankee Doodle" phrase "stuck a feather in his hat and called it macaroni" also refers to this fashion, not pasta. The sailors who first saw these penguins thought their exuberant crests made them look like the idiots in the UK. DANDY |
