Another serious problem with the new compose interface
This is incredibly tiresome.
They have undone the fix they implemented six years ago so that once more it has become impossible to enter the subdomain part of an address from the compose screen. I don't want to go over it all again, so I refer you to this thread from 2020, which I haven't revived because it morphed into a lengthy off-topic discussion about emojis (largely my fault I'm afraid!). I have, however, revived the support ticket from 2020 and will keep you informed. |

Thanks, Grhm. If I understand the issue correctly, I think I have found a way to include subdomains in the compose screen.
I have a catchall address set up as *@mydomain. If I select that address and enter the first part of the address' eg me@mydomain, I then press Tab and it brings up the subdomain option eg me@you.mydomain. I only stumbled on this by chance. I cannot see any instruction on the subject. |

A keyboard shortcut is better than nothing.
I tried it in the phone app, and there you get to edit the from address. If it doesn't match the domain or a subdomain of the identity you get an error message when trying to send (and the chance to correct the address). |

Yes, for once the mobile interface is easier to use than the desktop one. In this instance anyway, and for now, at any rate, until they embark on more pointless change for change's sake.
Thanks, Fenman, I'll try that tip next time I have fired up the laptop. |

I've just fired up the laptop and I can confirm that Fenman's tip works. And there is also another way - as per this message I received from Fastmail, you can click on the "@":
