Anyone know how to change the Internet, Tools, Programs settings in IE 6 so that email points to FM. It has a setting for Hotmail ...
Maybe a registry setting somewhere -- Win2K system. Thanks. |

You can choose Outlook Express and then configure your Fastmail Account under your ISP account in OE, and that works!
I have my initial Member account configured this way, and so when I right-click to email something form the net I can choose my ISP account, or my fastmail account, or my alias I have on that fastmail account. That is one solution to your situation.... Susan. |

What I wanted to do was left click a mailto: link and have IE open at fastmail much like it does if one configures Hotmail to be the default email program. |

If you want to use FM's compose screen, download the installer version of FastCheck. You can configure it to open your mailbox (in any Web browser or email client) by single- or double-clicking the tray icon.
If you want to use an email client, set FM as the default account in your default mail client (and use a shortcut to "mailto:" on the desktop to open the compose window). Maybe Eric knows the registry setting. |

Well, I am making some progress. I have configured Fastcheck to be my default email client. Now when I click on a mailto url my fastmail compose screen comes up.
Only one problem, the popup To field does not contain the address from the mailto link? |

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail\ (edit: if I'm not mistaken, you should create the hierarchy "FM-Custom\Protocols\mailto\").

There's currently a problem with the To: address not showing up. This happens because of a code update (or somesuch) at Fastmail's side. Eric has said he'll fix this in the next FastCheck release.

I don't think there's going to be a solution that opens a web page with your userid+pass at the compose screen with the subject filled in. Though it probably can be done, the password wouldn't be secure. I think FastCheck is the solution here.

No, indeed. It depends on you still having an active session with Fastmail, either through not having used up the 2-hour timeout, or having 'Save Password' enabled.
