Entourage X "secure password"

i'm using entourage for os x. i'd like to use POP and SSL. i've checked the "This POP service requires a secure connection (SSL)"

there is also an option to check "Always use secure password"

when i check this option entourage is unable to retreive my mail. it returns "The POP server returned an unexpected reply to a command that Entourage issued. Error -16999" when i leave it unchecked i have no problems retreiving my mail. if this option is turned off is my email fetching less secure? does this need to be turned on in conjuction with SSL to truly be secure. if so does anyone have an idea as to what i may be doing wrong?

thanks in advance

Sorry, don't have an answer for you but at least I'll get in first to say welcome to the forum!

Not sure if I'll be of any help but the following shows what entourage says the error is from. I'm not sure that's your problem because you can get mail with it unchecked. You might want to try changing your port first. (below)

In Outlook Express I use Port 995 for Secure Incoming and Port 465 for Secure Outgoing. Maybe that will help if you can see where to try changing the port?
Sorry if none of this helps. I don't know entourage at all...

It doesn't need to be turned on....thats basically an option for a hashed password, which I dont think FM supports. If you have enabled SSL for the POP link, the entire session is encrypted, including the password, so you are all set.
