Fastmail Loop - Importing an Existing Virtual Domain
Hi,
I want to upgrade to a Loop account, but the information is so scarce. I manage all my family mail by sharing an enhanced account and using folder redirects from aliases in a virtual domain, with a catchall for individual mail addresses used for online subscriptions. (CompanyA@mydomain.com.) Any idea what will happen to all this if I import it into a Loop account? Cheers then, Wigan Warrior |

It's a funny name for "family account".
IIRC when yuou import an enhanced account into a family account it is imported "as is" (to the account level you chose). Any funds are moved to the family container account. The rest of the account's contents are still in the account and keep working after importing, and then you can use the "manage" interface to start moving things into other user accounts in the family account. |I don't remember the details now. Some details are in the wiki. others are scattered around the forum. What I do remember is that I hesitated for a long time because I was afraid of complications while transferring to the family, and then found out it was surprisingly easy and trouble free. |

Does anyone have ideas where there may be some information on this. It's like needles and haystacks at the moment.

I'm assuming you have an Enhanced account at the moment, if so then the Enhanced account becomes a Superior account inside a Family account. The domain that you had becomes a Personal domain within your new Superior account and all your shared users remain shared in your account. If you then want to un-share those users and move them into their own account you simply move the domain from your account to the family account and add users as you see fit. The paths are updated when you move the domain out to the family so you don't lose anything for the users that you don't move out. Regards Alan |

BTW, one can also keep a personal domain with one's own superior account and share a subdomain with the family account. I have mydomain.tld hosted in my own superior account, and I have family.mydomain.tld hosted in the family account (to do this I made in my own account in custom dns two NS records that point this subdomain's name servers to ns1.messagingengine.com and ns2.messagingengine.com and then I imported the subdomain as a domain in the family account. I also have some other unexplainable phenomena in my family account, such as another subdomain that somehow is hosted in my son's Lite account, which I don't know how I managed to get there. Perhaps through the "transfer domain" screen).

One thing which does not work smoothly involves the 3-for-2-years discount offered last year. I took that offer, and more recently planned to place my account under a family plan along with a new account for my aunt and uncle. But when I tried to import my existing account, I found that if I did so, I would lose the extra year. It would just disappear. I asked, but there was nothing to be done about it. So for now I have a family account to manage my aunt and uncle's account, but my own account won't be under the umbrella for another 2-1/2 years, or until I'm sufficiently tired of the extra complexity to give up the remaining value (which IIRC is prorated over the three years).

While I am at it, anyone knows how many domains can one add to a family account? If Superior is equivalent to Enhanced, does that mean I can add up to 50 domains?
How about mail storage quota? Enhanced is 10GB currently, and Family Superior is stated as 6GB in the build quote page but 8GB in the features page. ![]() |

Not sure about the domains but the Family Superior account was 6GB but was raised to 8GB recently.
