how to stop people linking to your page?

I am refering to my website. Is there any scripts that will stop others from linking directly to my page? instead they will be directed to my main page and maybe if framed, will be break out.

You don't want people to post links to your webpage?

Or are you talking about "hotlinking" where people link to your images and use up your bandwidth? My website provider prevents hotlinking (I can turn it on or off if I want...I have it on. People can type in http://www.mysite.com/picture.gif but they can't link to http://www.mysite.com/picture.gif

Perhaps I am not good at describing my problem but it isn't posting of links but they link directly to my page in such a way surfers will thought my page is part of their website.

You want to check that your page is only displayed in the frame you have chosen, and not by itself or in another frameset, so it needs to know what _TOP is and if it is not right, force a re-load of the frameset.

Is that it?

If my content page is loaded directly at someone else site (not in frames) the page will be reloaded in my frames or visitors are sent to the page on my site or back to my main page.

If the page is loaded directly, then it's only your site they are looking at. After all, I could do the same thing in one browser simply by choosing to open your link in a new window or new tab. The only difference would be is that my refferer would be local to you.

But what this means is that you don't care about refferer, you want Javascript code to determine if pages that you have put in frames are _TOP and if they are, to reload the frameset.

That's pretty standard, if not very user friendly.

Unfortunately, there are plenty of scum out there who want a good-looking website but aren't keen on the work required, so they just code a frameset in which they display other people's hard work and pass it off as theirs.  I've seen plenty of that, and even had it happen to me, so I use a frame-breaker on all my pages (they're not supposed to be in a frame, and if they find themselves in one they break out of it).  Unfortunately, things like that are increasingly necessary nowadays...

So I guess if there is a code to check like if the prievous page doesn't come from one of my own pages it will be redirected to the home page where it will have a code to break out of frames if neccessary.

How would you set up a code like that? I'm no good at coming up with code, I always have to have it spoon-fed to me...

Yep, there is. I'm still not entirely sure what exactly you define as linking, though. You could check the access logs of your webhost to see the Referer fields, if you have access to the logs.

Indeed... but then again Tripod (etc) aren't really good for professional site design, they're more for personal homepages IMHO.
