I have been using AVG very happily for some months. However, I got the sasser worm and although I could run the patch in safe mode I could not do so normally.
At the same time my AVG stopped working - it would open for a second or two and then close. Prior to this it was working fine - even when sasser was affecting my lsas.exe file (I ran a sweep a day or two ago and it had a couple of hits.
I have even gone as far reinstalling avg but to no avail.
Occasionaly I get a message that says that some sort of key windows driver is missing. I decided that I would reload my OS (XP Pro). This had the unfortunate effect of removing the patch that I had just spent the last hour applying (as well as all other patches that I have applied - not many I admit) and making my modem not recognised by my PC - a common problem with PCs such as mine which originally took Win98 I belive.
Can anyone explain why this has happened, and what I can do about it. If what is causing the problem is a virus how do I get it off if my AVG won't work.
As you can imagine I am really not happy about this and would really apprciate some help.
Larry
