IDLE command dropped on IMAP?
I can no longer stay 'connected to server', and therefore receive 'pushed' emails through the IDLE command.
This is for the last few days... Can anyone explain, or help? Using Entourage 11.2.3 with MacOS 10.4.6 |
FastCheck IDLE still working
I don't think your issue is due to any total IDLE failure at Fastmail, since FastCheck (for Windows) has continued working well for me over the last few days. Of course, some such low-level issues may depend on which server each of us connects to.
Are you sure you have had uninterrupted connectivity to the messagingengine.com server? You might try some monitoring tool to check for reliable connectivity. I use PingPlotter for Windows. I'm not sure what IP monitoring SW is available for the Mac. Bill |

Pinging the server gives 131ms (to cross the pond) and no packet loss. I should add that I haven't changed any settings, and my other two IMAP accounts are working normally. I'm out for the rest of the day now, but will look into it again later. Happy Easter Everyone! Tony |
IMAP dropouts?
You might still have an erratic connection, Tony. This is why I use a long-term monitoring program, which can ping every 15 seconds for days at a time and graphs the results.
Other than a local problem here a couple of hours ago, I haven't had any connectivity (or IDLE) problems in the last few days to Fastmail from my location (Dallas area in north Texas, USA). Are these just timeouts, I wonder? Here is another thread from Jan 2006 which discusses Fastmail IMAP timeouts: IMAP timeouts Bill |

I discovered the Apple in-house Network Utility app (quite surprised it's not called iNet ;) ) and was trying to learn how to do 15 second pings through the Command Line when I decided to quit and restart my email client and it all cleared up... Feeling a little sheepish for having taken your time, but as usual when I come here for help I've learned something new, so I hope you're OK with that too... Tony |
Glad it's working, Tony. We all know the old adage, "If all else fails, reboot!" But we sometimes forget this advice when it doesn't -seem- to be a problem this would fix. I sure didn't suspect that would fix it!
INET is a company in Richardson, TX, purchased by my employer Tektronix a couple of years ago. So maybe our lawyers have been active protecting our brand name from use by Apple. :/ |
