Free Forums Discussions boards
I know nothing about this but got corious on them when I hit upon this one.
http://www.runboard.com/ some such boards only allow you if you get enough traffic. Nor sure but we have talked about oen of these b4. Maybe Edwin links to them too. I take a look back in one minute. He sure did here is link Bulletin Boards only one of them known to me? And the one I mention here above not in his list. what do you know of this one. Have any of you been active in a forum there? Trew |
Here is another one???
http://www.forumer.com/ Seems to give free blog too. One could even chose among two different bb software? Trew ps going to be over and out :) |
Although the likes of Ikonboards, Invision and PHPBB are strong boards, I have always considered vBulleting to be the best. I believe them to be the Rolls Royce of forum/discussion boards.
I have had connections with forum companies in the past: I used to be a moderator at the support forums for Aimoo (a forum hosting company fairly similar to EzBoards, but in my opinion more technologically advanced). |
Adam, you misunderstand me totally ???
I wrote free!!! Quote:
So hope others who knows about free BBS could contribute their experiences. :) Trew |
Oops, my bad.
Anyway, both PHPBB and Invision do free versions and remotely hosted ones too (free or pay). I think Ikonboars are free too? Was it remotely hosted ones you wanted or ones you load on your own website? If the latter you'll find that quite a lot of webhosts have an internal feature to automatically set up a boarrd (usually Phpbb or Invision). |
Thanks for taken my sour remarks in a good spirit :)
I'm not good at getting all these stuff. I need to link to it from my blog. 1. I need to find a free blog that could handle upload via email so I could add things via my Mobile Phone email and at same time allow me to link to the free forum! 2. the free forum most likely then is a "remote" one. That si not a good solution cause they could shut it fown if not used enough or used too much or they going out of money. So there. trew ps long over do bed time here. 00.20 soon |
Which site were you referring to? I think you'll find that with most free remotely hosted forums you have to log in every so often to keep it from being deleted (usually about 30 days).
Another option is hosting it yourself, ie opening a web hosting account and having your lbog and forum on your own webspace. One thing to be aware of is although the blogs and forums are free in themselves sometimes you hgave to use a paid web host, however there might be free ones out there, in which case webhostingtalk.com can guide you in the right direction. Hope this helps! |
Thanks Adam

You welcome

Aimoo?
Adam - going off on a tangent here - I'm interested that you were involved with Aimoo. Because a while back I was trying to find some place for a small forum and ran across Aimoo but saw a bunch of negative opinions. I was looking for something not only free but extremely simple and worry-free, so I skipped it.
What did you think of it? |
I think the best description of Aimoo is it's an advanced, simple to use remotely hosted service (WYSIWYG editor etc) that has been left to dwindle over time. That's all down to the one and only administrator of it spends little or no time there so the service has suffered because of it, hence the negative comments. A shame really because when I joined it was miles ahead of Ezboard because Admin was there all the time.. just goes to show what a lack of TLC can do. Ultimately that is why I, and all the other then moderators, moved all our forums elsewhere and resigned as mods. I can't begin to count the number of times we tried to persuade Admin to employ extra administrators, ie people who put their full heart into the company!
So, my advice? Use it if you want a FOC multi feature user-friendly interface, but I would advice against signing up for any premium services incase it all goes wrong (it's a nightmare to get a refund when there's nobody around who has the power to do so!). Of course, things might have changed since... it's exactly a year since I gave up my mod position and some new mods have appeared since (which suggests Admin has logged in at least twice this year). I'll stop now before I drag this thread too far off topic. |
A bulletin board I used to use is free with limitations. It's called Xsorbit Personal and you can find the details of what the free board and the upgrade paid boards offer on this page. (I think their features page is too detailed and does not have any pricing information for comparison, so I'm not steering you to that page, although you can click the link to look at it.)
It's remotely-hosted which means you do not need a web host. They do most of the work. You can customize the look of your board to match your web site and administer a lot of the board functions yourself. Because it is free, though, they put banner ads on your board, at the top and bottom, too, I believe. But that may have been ezboard.com, which I used to use also. Ezboard no longer offers free boards. Another free remotely-hosted discussion board is offered by Sparklit. It's called ActiveBoard and it's nice-looking, customizable, and easy-to-use. They put one banner ad on the board. While I haven't used their board, I've used another one of their services and liked it. |
Dragon, yes they look promising, maybe even I could use them then. I have some thirty days to decide on or maybe I should wait until 2006 when I'm back from winter ... I don't have telephone line there nor ISP so would have to use very expensive GPRS via Cell phone. So better to wait until I get back here.
thanks to all for giving advices. trew |
Its sad really,THE BEST SW OUT HERE IS VBB 3.x and lower and they were probably 1 of the only ones who didnt offer a FREE site option like all these others!
All those other ones arent that good compared to VB3.0!!! Kinda sad....... |
I miss the old discussion forums. Had some amazing times on them, and met great people through them that I'm still in touch with.
Some forums still exist: wrongplanet.net foreverdelayed.org.uk (or was it .co.uk?) groundhopping.nl namepros.com tweakers.net userbase.be webhostingtalk.com emaildiscussions.com  However, the majority have ceased to exist and turned into Facebook groups instead. I much more prefer a real forum. Like this one. :) Facebook groups are harder to navigate through and follow up on posts you find interesting, and the layout is not as nice as a real forum. PHPbb forums were really popular at the time. They're still around, but you have to search for them. |
