Invitations scarce?

Hum..I was just wondering...does anyone know why invitations are getting scarce? Or is it that no one wants to invite anymore...been waiting for a person to give me an invite but no luck

JeffK 6 Jul 2004 08:30 AM

gmail don't appear to have released any more invites for over a week.

I still have some invites and I told a new 0 poster member this morning that if he gave me 10 valid, on topic posts I would give him an invite, I am willing to make the same deal with you, you may pm me for one after accomplishing this task!!

I still have atleast 10 invites left, but as they are scarce, and perhaps no one will get any more, I am making this as a requirement for any invites I give out(while quantities last that is!!)

:D Susan.

I'm sure others may agree that's a good idea but I'm a little worried about "insincere" (forced) posts. As it is, it takes a long time going through all the great EMD post from those with interesting and helpful comments, having a lot of extra posts just doesn't make sense (to me).

(besides that, I don't think EMD has ever had any problems getting new posters to the forums :) )

You are right Sherry, you have a very good point, it is just that I was getting frustrated with the way people were using the forum soley for the invite and then leaving. They had to join, thus wasting forum resources and space on the members list and they were not even posting.

My reasonning was that if they stuck around for a few days and did some posts, that they would fall in love with the forum (like you and I did!!) and stick around, and actually become a real member (instead of a 0 poster name, technical member who never posts)... I wasn't trying to damage the forum in any way.

This is the best forum on the net and I love it, and will always remain faithful and loyal to it!!

:D Susan.

Sherry, I think you're right if the requirement is fixed as 10 posts.

Whether the requirement is 10 posts or 0 posts, invite-seekers will post the necessary count for the account, and leave.

Iknow you would never do anything to damage the forums. :) I also agree, and always did, with your reasons. I was only concerned with the results...

Besides that, I'll bet many with 0 post have stuck around after finding EMD and seeing how helpful it is to posters with all kinds of questions/help etc.

Anyway, keep doing what you're doing. I just had to post my views on it. :)

The 10 post number was only my personal choice. Individual offerers can set their own gates. Offerers don't have to stick with 10 posts. It's not a forum rule.

I thought that it was a good idea Jeff, and thus have stuck to it myself as well...

(thanks Sherry!!:D )

:D ;) Susan.

This is exactly the reason I italicized "fixed" - the exact number doesn't matter. It can be 0, 10, 5 or 25.

Wow...this forum I have to say is really active. I made this thread like 2 hours ago...? And already 9 replies! Wow...or is it that I'm very inexperienced with forums, and this is the way forums are suppose to operate?.

Susan...I'll try to meet your criteria :D

-edit-

Susan, do posts from other subjects count as a part of the 10? Or is it just for the Gmail forums?

-edit-

Another question..is the number of posts real-time data? I've posted several other times in other forums...but it looks like it's stuck at 2

-edit- nevermind about the last comment.

SusanUKF 6 Jul 2004 11:27 AM

Posts from this thread do not count, nor do any posts in the off-topic lounge.

You are getting close, and I hope that you see what a great forum it is and will hang around after you get the account as well. It is a great forum and a lot of fun, as well as being a wealth of information!!

:D Susan.

aznprodigy 6 Jul 2004 12:24 PM

Susan...what do you mean posts from this thread do not count? Is there a way to see the number of my "legit" posts?

Daniel S 6 Jul 2004 12:26 PM

Click Search below your post, and ignore any posts in the Invites forum or in the Off-Topic Lounge.

This thread was moved to the main Google forum, so now posts in it do increase your post count..not sure whether Susan will count this thread for your 10 on-topic posts.

Correct...you sent me an invitation on June 30 and I haven't got a chance to invite some of my friends to use GMAIL...pitty, but I'm patient :D

And...I advised them to become active members on this forum, instead of just waiting for an invitation...
