New free email and website service Ace.me

Can't say I can figure out how this site will make money, but you can claim your real name or a shortish address for free at https://ace.me/

I think free addresses must be at least 10 characters. They call them "tags." You can buy and sell tags if you want to. Emails are sorted into a text app-like format, with messages to and from the same address stacked in chronological order. Slick interface.

Security? Privacy? No IMAP or POP as far as I can tell.

I ran a few quick tests and messages came through fast.

I think it's an interesting idea in this age of messaging apps to arrange your emails in the same manner. The problem I would have is that probably 95% of my emails aren't short personal ones but instead long advertisements or transactional emails. I imagine they would truncate those to show a line or two, like an email preview, but I don't really need those cluttering up my view. Imagine if your texts were mostly commercial in nature--you would never find or notice ones from your friends and family.

But, bottom line for me is I would never use an email (or messaging) service without a track record of a few years at least, and a robust stated privacy and security policy. Not much information on that website about how things work behind the scenes. Plus, I'm never paying anyone to purchase a tag/username!

Why do you say that?

https://web.archive.org/web/20240320....me?source=ext so it may not be Google that bought it, they just use Gmail to sign up.

Its stupid ya need a gmail account!

I tried to sign up but couldnt as I dont have one...

frtrsysli 11 Nov 2025 07:39 AM

On the homepage they say "Forget Linktree, Gmail & Dropbox" but then they require a gmail to sign up, a bit sarcastic... ;)

Bamb0 11 Nov 2025 12:34 PM

I wouldnt be surprised if it was so they could spam ya!!

It's just Google OAuth like a million other sites on the web. An easy way to have secure logins using Google's security infrastructure.

Be aware of the domain. "Ace" is linked to asexuals. Asexuals often refer to themselves as "aces".

Nothing wrong with any sexual orientation whatsoever, but it could give a misleading impression if you use this service. Unless that the word "ace" has another connotation too, but even in slang I rarely heard that word.

Oxford dictionary lists several other meanings, including "very good, excellent".

The word "ace" can and is often enough used to name someone who is skilled or talented at some action.

During that time he gained the nickname "Ace" because his friends believed that he was "a real ace" with his ability to get dates

One Size Doesn't Fit All

I don't think this is important. It may have a negative meaning in this language, but it has a positive meaning in another language. It depends on your perspective.

I wasn't aware of the different meanins of the term "ace". So that changes a whole lot about that domain.

(PS: even if "ace" had only applied to the asexual community, then there would also be nothing wrong with it)
