Gmail Doesnt work in IE

This is really frustrating me. I can't seem to get Gmail to work in my Internet Explorer. Pretty much the only reason why I still dont use gmail as my default email.
It works fine in firefox, but if I use IE it will say loading in the corner, then go to a completely blank screen, and at the bottom the progress bar is advancing, but it never does load. Stays blank.

I'm using IE 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633
Windows XP Pro w/ service pack 1

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this???
Thanks,
Marcel

I thought "xpsp2" meant you have Windows XP Service Pack 2...

Can you login to your account from IE on other computers, or with other IE versions?

Marcelio 4 Aug 2004 01:29 AM

when I saw that xpsp2 I thought it meant I had service pack 2 as well. But I don't, unless its still in Explorer. But it doesnt have the features of IE on service pack 2 (the popup blocker etc)
I did try it quite a while ago, but I got rid of it. I'm sure I've done a format since then aswell.

I can log into my account on my roomates computer using IE.

Btw/ Gmail does work in Netscape 7.1 for me.

Firewall

Do you have a firewall or antivirus program on your computer? At one of my computers I use Norton Internet Security and I can't use all the functions of Gmail in IE either. For example, I can't get to the contacts section.

If you have a firewall, try to use Gmail with the firewall shutdown.

Maybe thats your problem.

Ron

You might also check your javascript settings (in Tools/Options). Gmail requires javascript. If you've got it disabled, the site won't work (I think).

I'm using Gmail with IE with no problems. Do you have all of your updates? What is your internet option settings? If the cookies are set high, then you will have problems. Go to Privacy and adjust the cookies to the medium level.

It sounds like a "pop-up blocker" issue. Or, as previously mentioned, JavaScript is disabled in your IE "Security" settings.

dragon1 11 Aug 2004 09:19 AM

Was the problem resolved, Marcel?

Another thing to check is make sure Google Mail site is in the Trusted Zone. Under Tools -> Internet Options -> Security -> Trusted Sites -> Sites.

Add https://gmail.google.com

Make sure you use the https not just http.

I have all scripting disabled in IE - having GMail added to the trusted zone allows me to access the site without having to enable ActiveX or other scripting.

Because of the security problems with IE, though, I mainly use Firefox now.

I use Gmail with Internet Explorer all the time and very rarely have problems getting in...

:) Susan.

I had the exact same problem!!! but then I did exactly what dragon1 told you to do (its in the google help section (which you can check out from your Gmail account through your firefox, by clicking help, and browsing the options, and finding the topic) so do what he says, and that should definatly fix your problem.

if not, PM me, and I'll send you information on how to fix, or check your IE for bugs.

dragon1 is a female fuzz!! Sometimes it takes a little while to figure out the gender's of certain members, when the names are not obvious.

fuzz2988 11 Aug 2004 12:00 PM

dragon1 11 Aug 2004 12:48 PM

How many guys are named Janet? :D

Thanks for coming to my rescue, Susan & Killer, but it is my fault for choosing an ambiguous username. I'd change it but I'll lose my standing. Such as it is.

Janet doesn't need to have a gender. It could reflect an organisation example: http://www.ja.net

:D
But we will usually assume Janet is a name.
