Never knew this either, but it makes sense -- we hear about somebody being ruthless.

I think he was being silly -- if he replaced the 4th letter with an S, it gives the same result. ;):)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyway -- back to the game:

THUG

a criminal

Yea, I was being silly too :D

HUGE

very BIG

sterdeus 9 Jul 2009 02:43 AM

HUGH

Mr Grant is at it again..

Chipper 9 Jul 2009 03:59 AM

HIGH

what skyscrapers are:

Malc -- did you accidently violate the rule with HUGE?

n5bb 9 Jul 2009 05:07 AM

SIGH

take an airy breath, often expressing weariness

(Which rule do you think he broke? THUG > THUG > HUGE > HUGE seems fine to me)

Chipper 9 Jul 2009 06:15 AM

SIGN

I may have an incorrect interpretation of rule #3: I thought you had to replace a letter but the other three had to be in the same position. THUG to HUGE moves H from 2nd position to 1st, U from 3 to 2 and G from 4 to 3. Either method is fine with me. :)

n5bb 9 Jul 2009 06:39 AM

SINE

trigonometric function

Quote:

3. You can only change one letter, the three unchanged letters must remain in the same order.

hadaso 9 Jul 2009 06:54 AM

SINS

Things that sort of break the rules - at least those rules set by the creator - though not the creator of this thread! :p

Actually I didn't break the rules: I thought I'd write MISS but then I saw the rules also allow me to put the S between the I and S in MIS.

n5bb 9 Jul 2009 07:06 AM

FINS

the Finnish -- or stabilizing appendages used by fish and vehicles flying in the air or water

hadaso 9 Jul 2009 07:41 AM

FANS
